Matley Farm Cottages

April 2018

Originally a beautiful small holding in the rural idyll of Low Bradfield. This project encompassed complete renovation of the entire farmstead and surrounding landholdings. New drystone walls to enclose the field boundaries were hand built, new water supplies installed to feed field trough systems. Within the main yard, the entire roof of the building runs were stripped, the rotted softwood timber purlins and rafters replaced with hardwood systems, including two separate king trusses, which were left exposed within the cottages. The barn received a complete installation of aged and dyed stone slate to match the existing roof coverings and enable it to blend sympathetically with the surroundings.

The smallholding is now home to three terrace cottages encompassing, two with three bedrooms and one two bedroomed property, with further plans for conversion of the barn from secure storage to form additional living accommodation, in the future. All the properties received new utility supplies, we undertook the excavation and laying of all pipework for gas, water and electric, bringing the site upto 21st century standards of living. All doors and windows within the cottages received bespoke handmade hardwood timber double glazed casements, made locally by a family firm. New seamless aluminium guttering systems were installed to all the buildings on site. The driveway and courtyard received tarmac surfacing to create a stunning gated community overlooking Dam Flask.
